Nick in a Tutu

Here we are at the Travel Lodge in Edmonton wondering how we went from looking out at ocean to looking out at Car dealerships. hmmmm........

Sunday before we left Vancouver Island we went on a walk along the ocean, and it is probably among the most beautiful walks I have ever had in my life. We started on a regular old path, then we moved to rocky beach, then we were in a hidden green area that reminded me of the book "The Secret Garden". From there we found ourselves among tall cedars and at the end we came out on a mountain spring that we dipped our fingers and toes into (very very chilly!!)

We flew into Edmonton on Monday afternoon. We are playing at the St. Albert International Children's Festival. What an amazing festival this is. We have met performers from all over the world- from Peru to Germany and right back to Quebec City. We are doing 3 shows a day on the outdoor stage (which is sometimes very very very hot..) But we are having a great time and are meeting so many families.....
9 shows to go and then we are flying home.wheeeee.

We got the chance to see a Rick Scott and the Pied Pumkids show yesterday. Rick Scott is a Canadian Icon, with 15 albums released and many many awards for his music. Their show was fantastic - we left feeling completly inspired.....

We have also had the chance to meet many other performers from across the world.
Nick was invited up on-stage by a fellow performer and then asked to do ballet. As you can imagine he was quite the hit.
These are our friends Ramblin Roy and his trusty sidekick Bucky

Here's our very tall friend Nikolai... those are some large pants

We are really looking forward to the rest of the festival.. it is certainly world class.

We will post some more pictures throughout the week. We are looking forward to coming home and performing at the Perth Studio Theatre next weekend.

Hope you are doing well and we can see you soon!

We would love to hear from you.

Love,
Taes and Nick

down by Oyster bay...

Hello from Oyster Bay- the most perfect place on Vancouver Island. As I write this I am looking out at the ocean, and sitting in a wooden cabin. The cabin is supposed to look like half a heart...i think it ressembles a barn...or a spaceship..

maybe an Oyster...? Either way it is perfectly cozy in here.
To get here we travelled to the island on the Ferry, rented a car and took a beautiful drive along the shore to Courtenay. We performed one show in Courtenay, and then the next day in Campbell River which is just 45 km down the highway. Both shows were fantastic- we loved meeting you all and have met so many amazing people in the past few days. Thanks for having us to your Island!

Yesterday we went to a wonderful place called Goose Spit ( don't let the name fool you we didn't find any goose spit)- here's a picture:
And Nick caught a Fish:

Taes found herself in a little bit of trouble:

Today we are spending our day off relaxing and exploring before we hop on the plane to Edmonton tomorrow and get set for 15 shows at the International Children's Festival in St. Albert, Alberta.
We are now off to do a hike on a trail called salmon's point. Looks like a great spot. The sun is out but the wind is blowing should be lots of fun. Did you know that the ocean temperature here is about the same in the summer as it is in the winter? It's just the air that is colder when you get out. ... maybe we will do a little ocean swimming if we get hot enough..!

A Whale of a Time

Good morning !ooorr maybe it's a later time where you are... sooo Good Day!,

I am awake early looking out over the ocean and mountains from the 19th floor condo we are lucky enough to be staying in. It is so very beautiful in Vancouver. Last night we had an incredible time performing at the Vancouver Aquarium. The evening was called: Dreamnight. It is a yearly event for the patients and families of BC Children's Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, Make a Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, and Canuck Place Children's Hospice. We performed with Bob's and Lolo. They are a fantastic group out of Vancouver who perform music all about Nature, and especially about creatures in the ocean. Which was perfect for the aquarium!! It was an amazing evening to be a part of.
We performed right in front of the Beluga Whales. I am absolutely in love with them. They are so very cute and blubbery. I think this guy is smiling at us,.....

We also saw many other creatures..Jellyfish:

Otters: (awww..look at the way their paws are folded on their tummy's)

Scary Fish:

Harry met some fish:

and found a long lost relative..:

After the shows we got a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium. We even got to touch a pink starfish!
Thank you so much to the staff of the aquarium and Bobs and Lolo. It was great to meet all of you who were there. We can't wait to see you again sometime.
On Friday we are off to Vancouver Island for 2 performances...looking forward to the ferry ride! Today we are heading into Stanley Park then having a dinner out to celebrate Nick's Birthday! Talk to you soon

A Penner For Your Thoughts

H.E.L.L.O
2 days ago we had breakfast with one of the greatest children's performers of all time... yes that's right ... Mr "Cat Came Back": Fred Penner. Wow-were we ever nervous. There Fred was shaking our hands and inviting us to sit down with him and there we were all sweaty palms and red faced ..but he was soo nice and friendly truly an amazing guy --what an experience! Here we are after breakfast.

We had two great shows: First in Canmore then in Cochrane, Alberta. So wonderful to meet all who were there. Here's us rockin' In Cochrane'.....

Yesterday we left bright and early and made the journey into the Rockies. It was a breath taking trip that saw stops in Banff , Lake Louise and many places in between.

We were visited by some mountain goats and elk- it was very kind of them to say hello..

Our adventurous day ended in Calgary where is started to rain, then hail and when we woke up the next morning there was an inch of snow on the ground....brrrrrrrr. We hopped on an airplane bright and early and flew to Vancouver which is where I am now writing you from. We have a show tomorrow night at the Vancouver Aquarium which should be so exciting with our friends 'Bobs and Lolo.'

Exploring new places and cities is very fun to do. We live in such a unique and beautiful country....this is our home, is our home CANADA.
Love our country.
Can't wait to see you sometime soon.
Love,
Taes and Nick

Can Less? nooo Canmore!

Hello!
Well it was an early morning in Burlington as we made our way to our lovely Hamilton Airport and then off to Calgary. Here is Taes preparing for take off:

The clouds look like cauliflower from 4000 ft in the air which made me a bit hungry. Taes and I had 3 hours to to wait in the Calgary Airport before our shuttle took us to lovely Canmore Alberta. We spent our time writing a new song, enjoying watching people coming and going, and being very cautious of huge hippos:

After a wonderful walk around Canmore and being surround by the beauty of the Rockies we are now winding down after 10 hours of travelling. We are getting ready for our shows tomorrow at the children's festivals in Canmore and Cochrane- should be fun. Rumour at the front desk of our hotel is that Fred Penner is staying at our hotel! Taes is wandering the hallways hoping to bump into him......
;)

We'll talk to you very very soon!
Keep rockin!
Nick (aka Splash)
